The Legacy of Krang Kain
BLOOD OMEN 2
A Review by Impar and CptDeelishus
In Blood Omen 2, you play as a derelict old homeless man who is woken up and told to save the world from corruption by a creepy woman in an '80s exercise getup and a cape. Naturally, the old man, Kane, is upset by this confrontation and is brought closer to the brink of outright madness. He begins narrating events in verbose, flowery, soliloquy - mentioning trees, sunshine, and rainbows intermittently throughout his speech - solving simple box-pushing-type puzzles, and slaughtering random villagers until just about the end of the game.

As the game progresses, you gain different abilities from the game's bosses, not unlike Megaman. Let's take a look at some of these powers!

The two "FEH's" are just different attacks and there's nothing all too spectacular about them. For your entertainment, you can pretend that the left one makes Kane break-dance, and the one on the right can ... oh, I don't know - knit a sweater.

COMBAT - let's talk about that for a second. It's clunky, it gives me gas, and I don't like it. The enemies don't adhere to the same rules you do. They can push you off ledges, you cannot. They can perform their "dodge" animation and anything you do to them is rendered useless to them (except for special abilities) regardless if Kane's character model is actually hitting theirs. You can perform your dodge animation and it'll only dodge really slow vertical swings. If you're quick enough to take in account the clunkiness and haven't gotten yourself locked into performing a combo while the enemy delightfully steps aside, pretends that you're sword isn't swinging through their chest, and charges with their take-away-half-your-health move, that is.

Now, as a drunken hobo, Kane must keep his blood-alcohol levels at a specific ratio in order to maintain his facade of power. The game will let you know when you are out of these bounds. To keep this in check, Kane has the ability to drink other people's liquids from a distance as illustrated here:

In the end, I found this game to be fun, silly, but often frustrating. Had I spent money on it, however, I would not be so kind in my judgment.

Those who are into vampire-type thingies/characters who often break out into flowery soliloquy and/or are following the "Legacy of Kain" series (I fit in all three categories), go ahead and give it a whirl. Those who don't like to torture themselves I advise to step back.
